In this topic "Weird and Wonderful" we have to pick a topic from below and research it and take pictures. Dreams or nightmares Surrealism Magic Fairy tales Superhero Powers. I have chosen Surrealism because I found it very interesting and entertaining. Surrealism is strange things from everyday objects and developed painting techniques that allowed the unconscious to express itself or basically unusual things/unrealistic and not normal, something you would not see on a daily basis.
Surrealist Pictures
As you can see from above they are all unrealistic.
PHILIPPE RAMETTE Born in 1961, Philippe Ramette is a French conceptual artist who plays with the view's mind. Ramette has a unique mind and takes surreal pictures they are quite unique/unusual but good.
I really like this picture because first of all I love the fact that there is a door attached on the sea and that the person is stood on a balcony, as if he is looking at the view. It is not overexposed or underexposed, with a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. It should be the guy where the buildings in the balcony looking towards the sea as a view. The size of the props are a good size, it looks quite realistic but just a bit weird. The rule of third has been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. The composition of the picture is suitable, I would like to take pictures and edit it just like how Ramette did.
Erik Johansson Erik Johansson is a photographer from Sweden based in Berlin. He is working on both personal and commissioned projects with clients all around the world. Erik doesn't capture moments, he captures ideas. With the help of his camera and Photoshop.
I really like this picture because first of all it bends reality without photoshop. I like how the grass on the bottom matches the wall paper thing. There is a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. The farmer is walking towards the guy on the ladder which looks realistic. The rule of thirds had been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. It has been captured in worms eye view, showing the whole platform. However the clouds on the top are under exposed to the clouds and sky to the one on the wall paper, otherwise the picture is not over exposed or under exposed. I would really like to take a picture like this, it is really clever the way how Erik thought about this picture, without using photoshop.
Shoot 1
First of all the size of the props are too small making it look unrealistic. The props are under exposed, making the background look over exposed. The rule of thirds has been used splitting the picture in to three sections, left side, middle and right side. The composition of the picture, is not good because you can see stuff that is irrelevant to the picture. The picture has been taken in birds eye view, showing the platform from a high angle. I can improve on my composition as well as making the props a suitable size and making the picture a exposure suitable, not over exposed or under exposed.
Shoot 2
It looks like a normal picture with people in but their heads replaced with something else, which are over exposed making the background looking under exposed. The composition of the picture is good. The scale of the pictures replacing the head are a suitable size, however on the right side the clown face is too small and you can see the persons face. The picture has been taken in bird eye view, showing the platform from a high angle. In my last shoot I said I am going to make my props a suitable size and I will not make them over exposed or under exposed, but I will make sure I do this in my future shoots.
Plan for 3rd shoot (Erik Johansson)
For my next batch I will try and make a Surrealist picture like this one below. In Erik Johanssons style. I will take a picture of my shoes and with the shoe laces make it look like it is a rope controlling the shoes moving and i will then crop it and put it onto a different picture, I will also take a picture of some one and put then in the shoes like below. The picture that i will make as a background would be something like the one below. (A farm or the country side.)
Shoot 3
First of all I took a picture of my shoes because I wanted to make it look like a person is controlling the shoe moving with the laces. Then I took a picture of a person put his hands out pretending to hold some thing as in to control it like the picture that I had shown on my plan before I took the pictures for the batch. I then got a picture of a dark farm like the one I showed before to make it look like the picture. I then edited the pictures and combined them into one using photoshop.
Usually on farms there are tractors to do a certain work, therefore I tried to compare the shoes with tractors. The people look like they are moving the shoes with the laces which I intended to do. There is a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. The lay out of the picture I captured is good, the shoes suit the background. It is not overexposed or under exposed, all the colours are similar, secondary colours. The size of the props I used are not too big or small. It looks realistic, however you wouldn't see it in a daily basis, because you don't see people in a farm in a shoe holding shoe laces and plus shoes are quite small to be put on your feet not to be in but the farm is realistic and you would see that in a daily basis if you lived in the country side and it looks quite realistic. The rule of third has been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. The rule of third has been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. In my next shoot I will capture my own background. It has been captured in worms eye view, showing the whole platform.
Plan for Shoot 4 I will capture a picture of a person looking like he is controlling people on top of a building, in the theme of Surrealism.
Shoot 4
First of all I took a picture of the person pretending to have power. Then I took a picture of a rooftop that he could stand on. I then edited them and combined them into one picture I used the filter "Artistic, Cutout" on Photoshop.
This picture looks like a Surrealist picture, something you wouldn't see on a daily basis. There is a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. It looks like the person on the top of the building is controlling what is going on the floor. The picture was captured in worms eye view, showing the whole platform. The picture is not overexposed or underexposed, but the filter is making it look hard to see it properly. The rule of third has been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. The scale of the props used are suitable. The composition of the picture is good, however on the left side of the picture it is showing too much building.
Plan for shoot 5 (PHILIPPE RAMETTE ) In this shoot I will take a picture of a normal place and take a picture of someone normally standing up and put them on the wall. Like the picture below.
Shoot 5
I first took a picture of one of my friends in different angles of sides, so that I can edit it on photoshop and put it on to a picture. After that I took pictures of different suitable places where I can put the person in.
I then had a different idea to make it look like a ghost disappearing.
I first of all cropped them and put them all into one picture.
This picture looks like a Surrealist picture, something you wouldn't see on a daily basis. As the person comes close the person becomes more faded. There is a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. The picture was captured in worms eye view, showing the whole platform. The picture is not overexposed or underexposed. The scale of the props used are suitable, not too big not too small.
Thanks to this application all my final pieces were easy to edit and their was no difficulty in finding it because it was on the computer. The application is to add effect, create unusual photographs and accomplish many more other things in order to create a master piece. It is a successful program which is preferred by many people. It creates good effects and includes very simple instructions to how to use the tools located on the application.
Plan for final shoot
For my next shoot I will take a picture of a person sitting down and a picture of a different place and edit the 2 pictures to put the person sitting in a unusual place, in example a roof or a hanging light in the style of Surrealism.
Final shoot
I am going to edit my pictures on photoshop to get my final picture for Weird and Wonderful project, so it will look like a Surrealist picture.
First of all I took a picture of a person sitting down normally, and a picture of a hanging light in a normal area, in example in the corridor of a school. Then I cropped everything out except the person with the magic wand. Then I selected the person and moved him three times to the other picture by applying and pasting. I made the people smaller and then placed them on the light. I made them hang on properly, and the appropriate size for the hanging light.
The picture above has a large depth of field, focused everywhere clearly. The layout of the picture is good and the sizes of the props used are not too big or too small. The picture is not over exposed or under exposed. It looks like a normal looking corridor at school, but the people on the light makes it look Surrealist, something you wouldn't see on a daily basis. The rule of third has been used, splitting the picture into three sectors. It has been captured in worms eye view, showing the whole platform.
Evaluation
The theme of my project was to take weird and wonderful pictures. The topics we were meant to do was Dreams or nightmare, Surrealism, Magic, Fairy tales and Superhero powers. I chose Surrealism, because I found it interesting and entertaining. I researched and looked at a few pictures and examples of Surrealism pictures. Which gave me good ideas to capture. During the project I did different shoots and I improved during each shoot, from first shoot to my final shoot. I became more creative, and explained what I would need to improve on and accomplished them. I have learnt a lot of skills during this project and I will make sure I use the skills in my future projects.
